about
Over the past decade, Happy Dog Project has taken their talents from an apartment in downtown Athens, Greece to all over europe. Since HDP’s inception in the summer of 2000, they have experimented with many different styles of music including original jazz improv and funky hip hop pieces to covers of traditional Greek folk.
HDP incorporates many different elements into their music to create a unique sound. More recently the band has incorporated a mediterranean feel and evolved from their strictly rough/hip-hop style. Some elements of their current sound include, balkan/greek traditional odd meters, mediterranean/middle eastern echoes and dub/electro ambiences.
The band consists of lead singer Nasia Gofa, guitarist Dimitris Karachonzitis, bassist Dionyssis Kaskouras, drummer Vangelis Kasvikis and do it all keyboardist Yannis Dimitriadis.
In addition to playing at clubs and festivals, the band's first two albums, 2004’s “The Dog Days Are Over” and 2007’s “Doggystyle” received airplay across European, Canadian and Mexican radio. Amidst the current economic crisis in Greece, HDP continues to churn out music and perform in an attempt to keep music and hope alive. The band’s latest release, “Dog To The Bone,” is their first album with Ropeadope Records.
